My Pfaff 130 (a beautiful antique sewing machine)

This is my amazing new Christmas present (along with my new camera! Thanks, Matt). My parents bought it from a guy who does Storage Wars.  It came with the sewing table, a light, and all sorts of parts such as; zippers, needles, scissors, and other fun treasures!

My mom has an antique Singer and found a guy who is an expert at fixing up antique sewing machines.  It didn't need much fixing up but he made minor tweaks to make it work perfectly.
If you need a sewing machine mechanic in the Salt Lake Valley, contact me and I can give you his info.

You can use the foot pedal or the thigh pedal to power the machine.  The photo below is the thigh pedal.  So fun!
The machine folds down to make a cute little table.
These are all the machine replacements, feet and needles.  I love the old packages.
  The Certificate of Guarantee
The instruction manual.  I will be using this a lot for the next couple weeks! :)
These are the fun treasures that came with the machine.  You can tell this lady loved to sew.  It makes me feel connected to her.

Check out the prices on these packages.  I wish we could still get zippers and binding for that price!

Look at these bomber pinking shears!!  Can't wait to use them.
This is such a treasure to have and runs so much smoother and quieter than my Brother.  I am so lucky to have parents who care so much to find something this thoughtful.
I will be using my Pfaff 130 for years and years to come.
If you're now in the mood to sew,

Homemade Organic Baby Slippers

My sister is having a baby boy and I am going  to be an aunt.  I can't wait to meet this little guy and spoil him.  We had a shower for her this weekend, so I decided to make her something small.  Slippers to keep his little toesies warm sounded like the perfect gift.  He is due on Halloween.  What a fun due date!
These are really simple to make and were the hit of the party.  It's so much fun to imagine tiny feet squirming inside these slippers.

This is what I used:
Organic bamboo felt (from Material Girls Quilting Shop)
Embroidery floss
Two wooden buttons
Scissors

I like to make up my own patterns.  I cut out two different shoe sizes at once.
Make sure the slipper base fits around the sole.
Start embroidering the top of the slipper with blanket stitch, leaving a long tail.
Blanket stitch all the way around the top of the slipper base, then put the slipper together.
Continue the blanket stitch, stitching through all three layers.
Finish sewing around the slipper.
Pull the outside thread to the inside and tie off with the long tail you left at the beginning.
After sewing the slipper together I decided to add a button.  I cut a hole where I wanted to the button to go, and reenforced it with the embroidery thread. I then sewed on the button.
Do the same thing to the other slipper.
Now you have two adorable baby slippers!

Yo-yo Mama

My mom is my shero.  She has been through so much in her life and has never given up.  She is still so strong, kind, loving and nurturing after all she has been through.  She has taught me so much about life.   One of the precious gifts she has given me is the knowledge to sew.

I have always been amazed at the time and hard work that has been put into yo-yo art.  My mom and great-grandmother have both made large quilts. They are so beautiful!  I can't imagine the time put into those quilts.

The one I made for my mom is small, but meaningful.  I used the fabric from my baby blanket (I still sleep with), old scraps of fabric she gave me when I was really young, and new fabrics I have used in recent projects.  It's special to both of us because of the memories in the fabric.
I made up my own yo-yo design, making each seven pieces to look like a flower with a green center.  I stitched it together in the shape of a snowflake.  It looks great on my parents Victorian sofa.

The pillows below, I designed, sewed and embroidered for her.

Thanks Kris (mom)!  You are amazing!!!
I love you.
